Schladming is quite a sprawling town with most of it located in between the railway line and the mountains. Some hotels are situated right in the centre, but others are on the other side of the river or the main Enns valley road.
Rohrmoos is a neighbouring settlement in an elevated position above Schladming and the Planai West lift junction. It is possible to ski in and out with some of the accommodation.
Schladming has surprisingly good connections for a resort which has, in the past, been underserved by package holiday companies.
Distance to Salzburg Airport: 89km
Distance to Linz Airport: 157km
Distance to Graz Airport: 180km
Salzburg airport is the best option by some way, with an excellent range of charter flights and some scheduled services and a distance of under 100km to travel. Added to that the route is mostly motorway directly south until the junction with the Enns valley.
Linz airport is the next closest and offers scheduled services from Vienna as well as a number of options from Germany and, currently, from London with one of the low-cost carriers. Again there are great motorway connections to the south down the A9 to Liezen and then into the other end of the Enns valley.
It is a bit strange that Graz airport is less attractive for a Styrian resort but the airport for the provincial capital is further away than the previous two options and offers nothing in the way of charter flights and a limited selection of scheduled flights mainly to German-speaking countries.
Vienna and Munich airports are both over 250km away from the town, but may be unavoidable for those travelling on particular scheduled flights. The popular ski charter flight airport Innsbruck is nearly as far away, while Klagenfurt is a little bit more problematic in terms of connections and offers nothing more in the way of flights than the nearer smaller airports.
Schladming railway station is located on the northern edge of the town close to the Planai West valley lifts. It has good connections through to nearby provincial centres and, from the international junctions of Salzburg and Vienna, through into northern and eastern Europe.
