The Silvretta Montafon area can be reached by rail through to the town of Schruns and good road connections through to Sankt Gallenkirch and Gaschurn in the Silvretta Nova area.
The town of Schruns has a good selection of accommodation of all types, while the smaller villages of the Silvretta Nova offer places to stay at the bottom of the ski areas.
The Silvretta Montafon region lies at the centre of a range of airports, but with none really standing out for convenient connections into the area. Friedrichshafen airport has a limited amount of flights, while Innsbruck and Zurich offer the widest choice of destinations in the winter season.
Distance to Friedrichshafen Airport: 102km
Distance to Innsbruck Airport: 140km
Distance to Memmingen Airport: 142km
Distance to Zurich Airport: 167km
The Bodensee airport just to the north of Friedrichshafen on the northern shore of Lake Constance is the closest option for those looking to fly in. There is a bus connection to the main railway station at Friedrichshafen, which links to Lindau and frequent services through to Bludenz (and occasionally even direct to Schruns). The road on the northern side of the lake can be notoriously busy but the route is fairly straightforward after hitting the A14 main road northeast of Lindau.
Innsbruck Airport has excellent transport connections by road and rail through to Bludenz and then Schruns. The express road off the Inn valley motorway up to and through the Arlberg tunnel then runs down to the junction for the Montafon. Frequent high-speed rail connections link Innsbruck and Bludenz with a change required for transport up to Schruns.
Memmingen is another of the smaller airports with a number of mainly low-cost carriers. In Memmingen's case it acts as an alternative to Munich, but is also a decent option for those looking to fly near to Silvretta Montafon. The A96 motorway heads south from the airport through to the Austrian border and then joins the A14 through to Bludenz.
Zurich Airport has the widest range of destinations and carriers, including intercontinental flights, and, despite being the furthest of the airports listed, does offer good rail and road connections to the Silvretta region.
The local Montafonerbahn rail service connects the railway station in Schruns to Bludenz and the main line between Innsbruck and Bregenz.
Listed individually below are a selection of four-star and four-star superior hotels in the villages of the Silvretta Montafon region.
