Skiing in Fulpmes Austria

fulpmes

Fulpmes is one of the major towns in the Stubai valley - Neustift may be better-known and a larger administrative area but Fulpmes is the biggest settlement.

The town is easily reached by road, using the Brenner motorway or by public transport from Innsbruck, and there is a local tram line which gives the option of a scenic journey from the capital of the Tyrol.

The ski area of Schlick 2000 is not particularly well-known to foreigners but it is one of the small gems of the Tyrol in good conditions.

Elevation: 936 metres

Many of the villages in the Stubai valley show evidence of a life outside tourism, with small-scale engineering and industrial concerns settled along the floor of the valley entrance - Fulpmes has a reputation both for its ironworks and for toolmaking (the well-known "Stubai" brand is based here) and the coat of arms of the village bears an anvil.

Of course, being in the mountains, agriculture is also an important source of income and tourism in both summer and winter grew rapidly in the previous century.

Fulpmes is the main location for hotels in this part of the valley, with the small suburb of Medraz, and the neighbouring settlements of Mieders and Telfes also offering some accommodation.

The ski area directly above Fulpmes is the Schlick 2000 area. The Schlick page also covers (briefly) the small ski areas of the Elfer lift above Neustift and the Serles lift above Mieders

The Stubai valley is easy to reach from most parts of Europe. Innsbruck airport provides a close arrival location for air travellers and the north-south-east-west junction at Innsbruck makes road travel fairly simple.
