How to get to Solden

Last updated: 05.02.2026

Getting to Solden

Sölden is near the end of the Ötz valley (a long side valley heading south from the Inn valley) and the high altitude means that it can be problematic to get to in bad weather and heavy snowfall.

The closest and most convenient airport is Innsbruck Airport (83 km away), with a transfer time of around 75 minutes to the resort. Salzburg Airport and Munich Airport are also popular alternatives for international travelers, although Munich is slightly farther away. Friedrichshafen Airport is also a good choice when picking an airport transfer or renting a car.

Sölden doesn’t have its own train station. You can take the train to Ötztal and then a regular bus up the valley. See below for detailed information on the nearest airports, transfer options, train connections, and driving routes to Sölden.

Driving to Solden

Getting from Innsbruck Airport to Sölden
Innsbruck Airport is the closest and most convenient for Sölden. It has long been known as a popular destination for ski charter flights – especially from the northern European countries – but now the introduction of new lower-fare scheduled flights from major destinations like London has made it into a real option for those flying from further afield.

The route from Innsbruck follows the main Inn valley motorway up to the junction at Haiming and then heads south into the Ötz valley. The road is a narrow mountain one but local taxi drivers and bus drivers are used to the journey. Delays are possible in bad weather due to other road users with inadequate winter equipment.

Getting from Munich Airport to Sölden
Munich airport is a long way from Sölden and the journey gets even longer at busy periods or in bad weather. The easiest route is to follow the motorway south to Kufstein and then the Inn valley motorway to the junction with Haiming described above.

Getting from Salzburg Airport to Sölden
Like Munich, Salzburg is not an ideal airport for Sölden as it involves a lengthy transfer, especially if travelling with holiday companies who add in stops along the way. The normal route heads through Germany on the motorway to Kufstein but those on holiday company transfer buses may end up travelling past Bad Reichenhall and St Johann in Tirol on the local roads if they are making stops at other resorts along the way.
