Neustift Ski Resort

The area around Neustift shows plenty of traces of a rich history – relics from the Bronze Ages, names of settlements that date from Roman times, and a strong tradition of mountain farming and climbing.

In fact the area originally was better known to tourists for its mountain climbing and walking in the days before the packaging of winter sports and the creation of the large glacier ski area at the end of the valley in the 1970s.

Neustift-Dorf is the main settlement in the local area, but there are plenty of smaller villages and hamlets located along the valley floor in the area covered by the Neustift administrative area – all with hotel accommodation.

Neustift’s skiing centres mainly on the Stubai glacier – it is the closest main settlement to the lift station at the end of the valley. But it has a small ski area of its own on the Elfer and there are other resorts in the valley which can be reached by ski-bus.

The Stubai valley is easy to reach from most parts of Europe. Innsbruck airport is close at hand for air travellers and the south-east-west motorway junction at Innsbruck makes the valley easily accessible by road.
