Nassfeld Ski Resort
Nassfeld at a Glance
Nassfeld is the largest and most extensive ski resort in Carinthia, located on the Italian border in southern Austria. It sits higher than many other resorts in the region and is widely regarded as one of the most snow-reliable ski areas in southern Austria, helped by both altitude and modern snowmaking.
The resort is spread across a wide, open mountain area rather than a single compact village. Accommodation is located in several small settlements around the base areas, with most visitors accessing the skiing by car or ski bus. Nassfeld is particularly popular with intermediate skiers, offering long, well-groomed runs and a relaxed, spacious feel on the slopes. In Nassfeld you can ski in Austria and eat Pizza/Pasta in Bella Italia for the lunch break.

About Nassfeld Ski Resort
The Nassfeld ski area stretches along a broad ridge, with skiing available on both the Austrian and Italian-facing sides of the mountain. This results in a good mix of sunny slopes and north-facing runs that tend to hold snow well throughout the season.
Most of the main lifts are modern gondolas and chairlifts (many with seat heaters), providing efficient access to the ski area and keeping queues to a minimum even during busier periods. We often skied there in the busy period between christmas and 6th of January and never had a que longer than a few minutes.
The ski pistes are predominantly blue and red, making Nassfeld especially suitable for beginner and intermediate skiers who enjoy long runs without beeing too steep.
While Nassfeld is not primarily aimed at expert skiers, there are a handful of steeper sections and black runs that add some variety for advanced skiers.
One of Nassfeld’s distinctive features is its proximity to Italy, which influences both the scenery and the atmosphere on the mountain. Several mountain huts reflect this cross-border character, offering a slightly different alpine experience compared to resorts in Salzburg further north.
Road access to Nassfeld is straightforward, with most visitors arriving by car or transfer. The resort is quieter in the evenings, focusing more on daytime skiing than a huge apres ski scene.
