Lermoos Ski Area Overview
Lermoos is an attractive village with a small but interesting ski area. Part of the draw as a destination for holiday skiers is the inclusion on the Happy Ski Card lift ticket, which also offers the nearby resorts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Ehrwald (amongst others) for those who have a car available. It is also an appealing destination for intermediate skiers and beginners as well as those who are looking for a typical Austrian village holiday.

Skiing in Lermoos - Details
Lermoos skiing takes place on the flanks of the imposing Grubigstein, with fabulous views over the bowlto the neighbouring village of Ehrwald and the glacier ski area of the Zugspitz.
Essentially the skiing is split into an upper and a lower section, with most of the harder skiing being on the top slopes. There are two alternate ways of getting onto the slopes: the Grubigsteinbahn gondola and the Hochmoos chairlift. Both head to the same place and the choice will depend on where one is staying or is parked.
From the collection of lifts at the end of the initial ride up from the village there is the choice of an old, slow and cold single chairlift – the Grubigstein chairlift – which does have the virtue of rising to one of the highest points in the ski area.
The other choice is the combination of the Grubigalmbahn and Gamsjet chairlifts which eventually rise to a similar altitude on the opposite side of the area. Skiers also have a choice of the Skihüttebahn chairlift from the top of the Grubigalmbahn which splits the two other chairs and rises to a lower altitude.
The bowls at the top of the ski area offer a selection of cruising pistes along with some bump runs and off-piste opportunities in fresh snow. This section of the ski area offers a surprising variety of choice for those who are willing to explore the different variants of the main runs.
There is also an option of the interesting ski route off to the side of the main area and with a chance of a stop at the mountain hut with panoramic views. The red and black pistes on this side are also amongst the harder groomed runs available.
Beginners and intermediates aren’t forgotten at the top either – there is the chance to take a couple of flattering blue runs from the top of the Skihüttebahn chairlift. However most of the easier runs are available on the lower slopes which are covered with snowmaking equipment to keep the runs in good condition.
