Galtur Ski Area Overview

The relatively small number of lifts gives a misleading impression of the surprisingly interesting skiing available in the Silvapark ski area. The intermediate-level runs on the front side above Wirl offer a great view back down the Paznaun valley while the lengthy runs down the back to the Kops reservoir have a fabulous panorama to add to the challenge of the more difficult slopes.

Skiing in Galtur - Details

The lift pass office in Wirl is located at the base of the Birkhahnbahn four-seater chairlift, which is easily accessed from the nearby bus stop and car parks and makes a sensible first choice to get onto the Galtür ski slopes.

An alternative way up into the area is the Alpkogel gondola which finishes within a short distance of the chairlift top station.

Both lifts provide some flattering initial red or blue runs back down to Wirl to get the legs working at the beginning of the day.

Eventually good skiers will want to head up the six-seater Ballunspitzbahn. As well as returning to the top stations of the lifts rising from Wirl, the chairlift offers access to runs which reach both ends of the picturesque Kops reservoir.

A red run follows the slope down to the Kopssee T-bars at one end of the water, while an intermediate level traverse opens access to the Breizspitzbahn gondola near the reservoir dam.

The runs under the gondola are a mix of long red and black runs as well a couple of ski routes. Access to the front side and back to Wirl is via a red traverse from the top of the gondola.

Galtür Ski Area Review:

Galtür for the Beginner Skier

  • Galtür is a quiet village with generally uncrowded slopes and beginner lifts are located near the base station of the Alpkogel gondola. The long runs back down to Wirl with an easy blue and red gradient allow unchallenging descents with lovely views back down to the village.

Galtür for the Intermediate Skier

  • The mix of runs is excellent for those who are looking for a challenge without an extreme level of difficulty. The red runs on the back side of the resort will test those who are looking to improve their skills on longer runs. Nearby Ischgl offers a good alternative if the attractions of the small ski area start to pall.

Galtür for the Advanced Skier

  • With fresh snow Galtür does have some excellent options for good skiers with lengthy runs at the good gradient. However the size of the ski area is probably too limiting for more than a day’s skiing.
