Austria Closes Ski Resorts Early

The Tyrolean state government has announced that all winter lift operations will finish at the end of business on Sunday 15.03.20.

Visitor accommodation facilities will also close at the end of business on the following day, Monday 16.03.20, so that guests have time to organise their return home following the resort closures.

The decisions have been made under the law regarding epidemics and following consultations with tourist authorities, said the government.

“The health of our guests, employees and the Tyrolean population has top priority for us. This decision was not easy but we are responsible for all Tyroleans and for all those who stay in Tyrol”, said Provincial Governor Günther Platter.

More details will be announced at a press conference on Friday March 13 at 10.00 in the Säulenhalle at the Landhaus in Innsbruck.

Added: a number of ski resorts in Salzburg have also announced closures, including areas such as Saalbach-Hinterglemm, the Ski Amadé resorts and Obertauern.

Added: the other western province of the Vorarlberg has also ordered ski resort closures at the same times and dates as in the Tyrol and Salzburg.
