Bad Kleinkirchheim Ski Area Overview
Bad Kleinkirchheim offers varied skiing across a medium-sized area, with slopes spread over several mountain faces above the village. The terrain is particularly well suited to both beginner and intermediate skiers, with a good selection of red runs and long, flowing pistes. Although the number of blue pistes is limited, most red pistes are not particularly steep.
The ski area hosted World Cup races in the past. Between 1978 and 2018 Bad Kleinkirchheim hosted World Cup races several times. Advanced skiers will love the black World Cup piste “Weltcupabfahrt Franz Klammer”. On their rest day, beginner skiers can enjoy watching the pros speed down the World Cup piste at the Spa Römer Therme.

Skiing in Bad Kleinkirchheim - Details
Bad Kleinkirchheim is divided into four sectors. The first is the Kaiserburgbahn, the most popular entry point to the ski resort, located right next to the Römer Therme spa. Take a gondola ride to the Kaiserburg, the highest point in the ski area. From there, the Strohsack and Maibrunnbahn are just one chairlift ride away. On the Kaiserburg side, skiers will find longer, slightly more challenging runs, including the red and black World Cup pistes.
Maibrunn provides easier access to terrain that is more beginner-friendly, with a higher concentration of blue runs and family-friendly slopes. This makes it a good starting point for less confident skiers or groups with mixed abilities.
The Sonnenwiesenbahn chairlift connects the Kaiserburg/Maibrunn area with the Nockalm/St. Oswald area. Both the Nockalm and St. Oswald areas offer interesting red runs.
The overall layout allows skiers to move between sectors with ease. Ski-Austria last skied the resort in 2026, just a few days after New Year’s, on a weekend, and there were no lift lines whatsoever (in peakseason with perfect weather!). The piste conditions were amazing. The main drawback of skiing in Bad Kleinkirchheim is the outdated lift infrastructure. The lifts are old and slow, and most don’t offer “luxuries” such as heated seats, snow shields, or automatic chair lift bars.
