Mammut Stoney HS Thermo Hooded Jacket Review (Men) – Review

Mammut_ski_jacket_202602

I tested the Mammut Stoney HS Thermo Hooded Jacket for Men during several ski days in January 2026 in the Austrian Alps, mainly resort skiing. The Jacket was worn in Katschberg where I endured skiing and apres ski at -16 °C without feeling cold, in Wagrain at -5 °C on a sunny day, and in Stuhleck in temperatures at roughly 0 °C. This review is written by Mat, who has been skiing for decades and has lost count of how many ski jackets he has owned — and is luckily unable to remember in how many of them he has frozen.

Is the Mammut Stoney HS Thermo Jacket Worth It?

The Mammut Stoney HS Thermo Hooded Jacket promises warm, comfortable skiing — even on very cold days. After wearing it in temperatures down to –16 °C, here’s the honest answer to whether it lives up to that promise, and where I feel it makes a few compromises.

Pro

Keeps you warm, even at -16°C
Very good wind protection
Comfortable fit with enough space for base and midlayers
Lots of pockets - didn't need a backpack
Ventilation zips allow good temperature control

Cons

Seems too bulky for ski touring
Might be too pricey for some skiers
Not the best choice for heavy rain or very wet snow conditions (but let’s be honest — who likes skiing in those anyway?)

If you’re considering a Ski Jacket from Mammut, you can currently get 10% off selected items that are already in the winter sale in the official Mammut EU store using the code SKIAUSTRIASALE26.

Overall, the Mammut Stoney HS Thermo Hooded Jacket is a warm, well-built ski jacket best suited for resort skiing in all winter conditions.

Best suited for

Skiers skiing in cold to moderate winter conditions
Skiers looking for a high-quality jacket built for long-term use
Skiers who don’t want to carry a backpack but still need plenty of pocket space

Less ideal for

Ski Touring
Skiers looking for a lightweight, easily packable jacket
First-time skiers — it’s probably more than you need if you’re still figuring out whether you love skiing
Skiers who enjoy skiing in rainy or very wet snow conditions - (if you’re one of them, I admire your dedication)

The Mammut Stoney HS Thermo Hooded Jacket is best suited for intermediate or advanced skiers who mainly do resort skiing and want a reliable, warm ski jacket.

Conclusion

After several ski days in very different winter conditions, the Mammut Stoney HS Thermo Hooded Jacket proved to be a warm, comfortable, and well-built jacket for skiing.

It performs especially well on cold days, offers plenty of practical pocket space and has very high quality standards.

If you mainly ski on-piste and value warmth and comfort over minimal weight, this jacket is a solid long-term choice. Ski tourers or skiers looking for a lightweight shell should look elsewhere — but for classic resort skiing, the Stoney HS Thermo does exactly what it promises.
