What is the Ikon Pass?

For those who landed on this page but don’t know what an Ikon pass is. The Ikon Pass, managed by Alterra Mountain Company, gives skiers access to over 50 destinations worldwide — including the U.S., Canada, Japan, New Zealand, and Europe.

In Austria, the pass includes Kitzbühel and Ischgl, offering a combined experience of modern lift systems, snow reliability, and lively apres-ski.

Ikon Pass Destinations in Austria

As already mentioned in the 2025/ 2026 season whith the Ikon Pass you can ski both popular ski resorts Ischgl and Kitzbuhel.
Ikon Pass holders receive up to 7 days of Skiing at both ski resorts in Austria. The Ikon Base Pass typically offers 5 days, while the full Ikon Pass grants 7 with no blackout dates. (Please check ikonpass.com directly)

Kitzbuhel

Kitzbühel is one of the world’s most famous ski resorts — home of the Hahnenkamm downhill and known for its blend of historic town ambiance and cutting-edge infrastructure. The ski area offers 180 km of pistes, a mix of scenic blues and long reds, and a modern network of gondolas and high-speed chairs — perfect for confident intermediates and experts. The 2025 season in Kitzbühel starts on 12th December 2025.

With its reliable snow, great terrain parks, and lively après-ski, it’s one of Europe’s most desired ski destinations. Ischgl is especially popular for intermediate and expert skiers as well as apres ski fans. The 2025 season in Ischgl starts on 27th November 2025.

Planning Your Ikon Pass Ski Trip to Austria

Getting to Austria’s Ikon Pass resorts is easy, thanks to several nearby airports and excellent connections. The two main international gateways with direct flights from abroad such as the United States are Aiport Munich and Airport Zurich — both offer frequent winter services and fast motorway or train access to the Austrian border. Of the two, Munich is usually the more convenient option, with more flight choices and shorter transfer times to Kitzbühel and Ischgl.

For those already in Europe, the smaller airports Airport Innsbruck and Airport Salzburg provide the most direct routes into the Alps, whereas Innsbruck is the closest Airport to both ski resorts. Another option is flying to Vienna – from there you would need to take a train to Innsbruck or Salzburg.

Once you land in Munich, Zurich, Innsbruck or Salzburg you have three solid transportation options.

  • Public transport -> check oebb.at or omio to find the best connection.
  • Shared or private transfer – pre book with travel companies such as Alps2Alps for door-to-door transport (Promocode SKIAUSTRIA gives you 5% discount)
  • Car rental – great option for flexible plans – check discovercars or booking.com to compare prices

The accommodation options ranges from luxury hotels in the resort centre to more budget-friendly guesthouses in nearby villages. For the ski resort Kitzbühe the neighbouring village Kirchberg offers the same ski-area access at lower rates — both share lifts into the main ski circuit.

Pro tips:
Pre-book your ski rentals online to get the best price and ensure your gear is ready when you arrive.

If you are travelling from outside the EU, your data plan will most likely not cover the Austrian internet, which can get expensive very quickly (speaking from experience!). We highly recommend getting a data plan for Austria via an eSIM. Booking trough this link with the E-Sim provide Holafly gives you a 5% discount.
