air travel to zell am see

Zell am See is conveniently located between a number of different airports . Salzburg is by far the easiest to use, given a choice, but Innsbruck Airport is also not too difficult a journey.

Munich is also a reasonable option, although a further distance away than the previous two.

Airport gif Salzburg Airport

Salzburg airport boasts the easiest transfer and the shortest distance to Zell am See. The recommended route takes the motorway south from the city towards the Tauern tunnel and cuts off just before that junction towards Bischofshofen and St Johann im Pongau. An alternate and even shorter route on more minor roads is to cross Germany via Bad Reichenhall to Lofer and then cut south through Saalfelden.

Airport gif Innsbruck Airport

Innsbruck Airport is generally a second choice for Zell am See skiers but some travellers may be forced to take one of the many charter flights which arrive in Innsbruck at a weekend. In this case, the best route heads along the motorway to Wörgl, then to Söll and St Johann, before taking the route via Hochfilzen and Saalfelden. An alternate route runs via Kitzbühel over Pass Thurn and down along the valley to Zell am See.

Airport gif Munich Airport

Munich Airport is a fairly straightforward route from Zell am See. Motorists should follow the motorway towards Rosenheim and then south in the direction of Kufstein. One option in good weather is to take the route via Oberaudorf, Reit im Winkl and Waidring, or alternatively use the longer main road via Wörgl, Söll, St Johann and Saalfelden.
