serfaus village information
Serfaus is unique among ski resorts in Austria - not for its skiing, nor its accommodation, nor even its position. It is however the only ski area to boast an underground railway!
While guests enjoy the quiet and compact village, day visitors are directed to a massive parking area on the edge of the village and then onto a subway with four stops at different points in the village. At one end is the car park and at the other the start of the gondolas leading out in three directions from the village.
In one way, the underground railway is a disadvantage for the resort, for it means that many day visitors don't get to see the charming village centre. But many of them will instead fall for the charms of the neighbouring villages of Fiss and Ladis, both set in equally spectacular positions above the upper Inn valley.
The areas are not far from the main Inn valley motorway and are especially convenient for those arriving into Innsbruck airport, with the drive being just over an hour in good weather and traffic conditions.
The range of skiing is extensive for all levels and the resorts should be on the list of every serious skier visiting Austria.
