air travel to salzburg
Salzburg boasts its own airport with a good mix of charter and scheduled flights during the winter season, including some of the cheaper options.
Munich airport and Innsbruck airport are also good options with convenient connections for those who are unable to book flights into Salzburg directly.
Salzburg
Airport
Salzburg airport is located just outside the town centre and has good bus connections into the main part of the city, although a taxi ride is quicker and affordable.
Munich
Airport
Munich Airport is probably second choice for those wishing to visit Salzburg. The train connections are frequent and the motorway route is a simple matter of following the signs to the south and east, as Salzburg is located just off the main Munich-Vienna route.
Innsbruck
Airport
Innsbruck Airport is also a possibility for visitors to Salzburg. The airport is located outside the city, so for rail passengers a bus ride to the main station is a necessity before boarding the frequent connections to Salzburg.
The road connections are easy enough via the Inn valley motorway and then joining the main Munich-Salzburg route at Kufstein. An alternate route would be to take the scenic drive via St Johann, Lofer and Bad Reichenhall.
