kaltenbach austria
Like much of the Ziller valley, Kaltenbach was originally a farming village, with some small-scale mining of the local rock for the healing oil which was extracted from it and exported.
Kaltenbach really boomed with the start of the explosion of interest in ski holidays and the construction of the lifts in the 60s and 70s.
There is a small selection of hotels in Kaltenbach and Ried im Zillertal next door, plus the village of Stumm across on the other side of the main Ziller valley road and the river.

Access to the ski area is excellent, with a large parking area just off the
main road and a double gondola rising from the edge of the car park. From the
top of the gondola skiing extends to the left and right in a number of bowls
and connects into Hochfügen (pictured above).
