Innsbruck airport offers the most convenient journey to the city but Munich and Salzburg are also good options. Friedrichshafen and Zurich airports are a little further away, but also within a reasonable distance.
Innsbruck
Airport
Innsbruck Airport is obviously the easiest and most popular for travellers aiming to stay in the city. Innsbruck has long been known as a popular destination for ski charter flights - especially from the northern European countries - but now the introduction of new lower-fare scheduled flights from major destinations like London has made it into a real option for those flying from further afield.
The airport lies on the banks of the river Inn to the west of the city only a few kilometres outside the city centre. A regular bus service runs from the airport into various part of the city and there is a busy taxi rank directly outside the main arrivals hall.
Salzburg
Airport
Salzburg Airport is a good second choice for those wanting to travel to Innsbruck. The easiest route from the airport is to take the motorway through Germany to Kufstein and then follow the A12 along the Inn valley.
Munich
Airport
Munich airport is another good second choice for visitors to Innsbruck - once again the route runs almost entirely on the motorway from Munich airport to Innsbruck. Motorists should take the route south bypassing the city centre of Munich and head to Kufstein and then, as above, into Austria at Kufstein.
There is a regular private airport transfer service operated between´Munich airport and Innsbruck.
Zurich
Airport
Zurich Airport is a popular airport for those arriving via scheduled flights and it may be the only choice for some heading for Innsbruck. There is a regular business shuttle flight between Zurich and Innsbruck airport. Those without a car would probably find it easiest using the regular trains between Zurich and Innsbruck. Those hiring a car would probably be best to take the route from Zurich via St Gallen and then joining the Austrian motorway system via Feldkirch and the route through the Arlberg tunnel and eventually onto the Inn valley motorway.
Friedrichshafen
Airport
Friedrichshafen Airport, as one of the "new" destinations for winter charters and low-cost flights, has transformed itself into a popular option for visitors wanting to head for the west of Austria and its popular resorts. However, the savings on the cost of the flight are probably going to be taken up in the journey to Innsbruck. Better options for cheaper flights are available through the closer and more convenient Munich and Salzburg airports.

Innsbruck
Hauptbahnhof Railway
Station
The main Innsbruck railway station offers regular services, as one would expect from a central European crossroads, in all directions - west to Switzerland, east to Salzburg and the rest of Austria, north to Germany and south to Italy. The connections to Italian cities can sometimes be a little problematic.
