igls skiing
Igls skiing is reached at the top of the village via the Patscherkofelbahn cable car. The beginners' ski school area and the ski school are located right next to the cable car base station.
The long journey on the cable car gives good views out over the surrounding countryside and ends just below the top of the mountain at a lower elevation where a number of lifts are available.
There is a lift to the summit, with a couple of "ski routes" from the top, but this is frequently closed due to the high winds which can occur in the resort .
The main upper level of skiing takes place on selection of easy intermediate red and blue runs accessed by a chairlift (the Panoramabahn was built in 2005) and two draglifts.
The longer runs - with again a choice of blue or red - descend to the Olympia Express chairlift near the main road from Patsch to Lans.
Skiers looking to return to Igls at the end of the day can cross the road and ski under the cable car back into the top part of the village.
The total vertical available at Igls is a respectable 1350m, with the village at 900m and the top of the summit chairlift at 2250m, but more skiers seeking more challenge will likely head over the valley to the Hungerberg or to the other side of the Wipp valley and the resorts of the Axamer Lizum or the Stubai valley.
